Roskilde Cathedral (A Unesco Site) a Viking Ship Museum

About 30 kilometers West of Copenhagen at the bottom of a long Fjord is the old Viking Capital of Sjælland - the Town of Roskilde.

Here we find the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Roskilde Domkirke ( Cathedral) where 38 of Denmark's Kings and Queens are buried.

Roskilde Cathedral originates in that period of time between the Vikings and the Medieval Age and the First Bishop was Absalon

the founder of Copenhagen City. He was also the Bishop of Lund in Southern Sweden.

Our tour usually starts at the Market Square (on a Wednesday and a Saturday there is often a Town market with local food produce

and antiques/collectables available to buy. Then to the imposing Cathedral with about 45-75 minutes viewing the inside of the Cathedral.

( sometimes it is possible to visit the Cathedral Museum at certain times and days) Please take note that the Cathedral is still a 'working'

Cathedral  and services , Weddings etc take place as in any normal Church. So sometimes we must be flexible with visiting times.

After the Cathedral we go down the hill to Roskilde Fjord and theViking Ship Museum.

The Roskild Museum and the one in Oslo are the only two Viking Ship Museums in The World.

It usually takes about 45-75 minutes to Tour the Museum.  Usually a little longer in the Summer months

than in the Winter months as there are often out door activities and exhibitions of Viking Ship building etc

The Roskilde Tour usually takes about 4-5 hours
