Jelling Kirke (Church), Rune Stones and Burial Mounds, Jylland

A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Jelling Kirke is a small and appears to be rather insignificant typical style Danish Church.....

until it is highlighted that it is here that  the first signs of Christianity were seen in Denmark

when Harald Bluetooth set up a couple of Rune Stones in memory of his father Gorm The Old who is buried

inside the Church. There are also two large burial mounds on either side of the Church and this insignificant

Church is now one of the most important historical sites in Denmark and is listed on the Unesco World Heritage Site list.

For these reasons Jelling Church is an interesting place to visit to travel back in time and consider the

beginning of Christianity in Denmark almost 1000 years ago and all that has happened since.
